Bad Letterbox Placement

From: (lmcardillo@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-03-01 16:50:01 UTC
Yesterday we went for a nice hike to find a recently placed
Letterbox.

We were very dismayed by the graffiti and obviousness of it. While
it was hidden in a wall, there were spray painted arrows pointing to
the exact location, and in addition, the rock where the box was
planted was also spray painted.

While letterboxing is a fun treasure hunting experience, we should
all take care not to disturb the natural environment when placing new
boxes.

I hope that these new letterbox placers will be reminded by us all to
respect nature and keep our secrets hidden from view!

I don't think it's necessary for "us all" to remind them. That would be
a lot of posts all saying the same thing.

And, I find it hard to believe that the placer and the graffiti "artist"
would be one and the same. I'm sure the graffiti was obvious, but
without it, would the box have been? It may have been well hidden before
the painter arrived on the scene. I think there are a few individuals
(aka: evil doers) who are aware of our hobby and who have nothing better
to do than look for boxes they can modify in some way.

Just a thought,

I couldn't imagine a letterboxer doing that! Sounds more like it was found
by kids who took spray paint out and "X" marked the spot!

Reminds me of when we found the yellow spray paint out by one of Moonstone's
boxes in RI!!!!
LOL... they literally sprayed the rock that covered the box, but I don't
think they found the box!

I'm hoping that the graffiti was there before the box, although the
box had been placed the day before we found it. We were the first
finders, but I'm sure others will find it to!

Hi Ron,
I certainly wasn't looking to "lambaste" anyone, or I would have told
you the name of the box/location.

I just wanted to add a comment for newbies of "what not to do!" This
particular box had been placed the day before we found it, and I'm
still hoping that the graffiti with all the arrows was there first.
I put a photo in the "Photos" area of this group.
